Triphala

Triphala Extract is a traditional botanical blend prepared from the fruits of three important Ayurvedic plants: Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) and Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica). The three-fruit combination provides a diverse botanical profile rich in tannins, polyphenols, phenolic acids and flavonoids.

The principal phytochemical constituents reported in Triphala include gallic acid, ellagic acid, chebulinic acid, chebulagic acid, chebulic acid, corilagin, ethyl gallate and other polyphenolic compounds. The relative concentration of these constituents varies according to the botanical ratio, extraction process and commercial grade.

Triphala Extract is particularly suitable for herbal hair-care, scalp-care and skin-care formulations, including shampoos, conditioners, hair oils, hair masks, scalp serums, creams, lotions and botanical gels. Its naturally occurring tannins and polyphenols make it a useful ingredient for formulations seeking a traditional Ayurvedic botanical profile.

For standardized commercial grades, Triphala may be characterized by total tannins, total polyphenols or specific HPLC markers such as gallic acid, chebulinic acid, chebulagic acid and corilagin, according to the individual product specification.

The classic Triphala formulation is generally described as approximately 1:1:1 by the three fruits:
